Mar 15, 2021

The New Mexico Ice Wolves are pleased to announce the team has signed forward JD Metz to a tender agreement for the 2021-22 season.

Metz is a 2002-born Minnesota native and played hockey at Mahtomedi High (USHS-MN) where he has averaged a point per game during his last two seasons with the organization. The 2020-21 season saw the 6’1”, 179lb captain scoring 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in only 17 games.

NM Ice Wolves head coach Phil Fox believes Metz will fit well in the NM Ice Wolves organization. “I am very excited about signing Metz to a tender for next season,” said Fox. “He’s a player we’ve studied a lot and he can play both forward and defense, he skates well and has great hockey IQ. He’s taken a big step in development every year and we look forward to continuing that.”

For his part Metz is excited about the opportunity to make the move to the next level of his playing career and come to New Mexico. “I’m excited to sign with the NM Ice Wolves and for the opportunity to grow with the organization,” said Metz. “I am looking forward to using skill to help the team and develop both as a player and person.”
