In the second of three straight this weekend in Amarillo, the Bulls once again started Charlie Glockner. Making him the only goalie the Ice Wolves have faced this season when playing the Bulls. As for the Ice Wolves, they started Garrett Mackay marking his first NAHL appearance since 10/13/17. He spent eight games this season and 20 last year with the Madison Capitals (USHL).
In the opening period, the Bulls came out aggressive as they are chasing the Lone Star Brahmas for the top spot in the South Division. The Ice Wolves answered with some of their own pressure but none of their five shots during the opening period found the back of the net. Although with 1:02 left in the first period Ty Black (3) intercepted the puck from his own zone and went one-on-one with Mackay. He made Mackay make the first move and then slid it past his left pad. Sending 1,747 stuffed animals onto the ice, as it was the annual Teddy-Bear-Toss at the Budweiser Bull Pen. All stuffed animals were donated to the local Toys-For-Tots.
In the middle frame the Bulls extended their lead to two after Lauri Sertti (4) took a shot from the top of the right circle that went right through a screen and past Mackay. Once again the Ice Wolves put up five shots in a period. Amarillo put up 12 during the middle period.
In the final period of regulation the Ice Wolves had spurts of momentum but were ultimately held off the score sheet even after pulling Mackay late in the third. They ended another period with five shots giving them a total of 15 after 60 minutes of play. Jordan Venegoni (12) scored the Bulls third goal of the game via empty net. Bringing the final score to 3-0.
Their win marked their third-straight shutout over the Ice Wolves this season. Also, Glockner now leads the league in shutouts with six. He has been the only Amarillo goalie to face the Ice Wolves this season. Amarillo remains the only team in the South Division that the Ice Wolves have not scored a regulation goal against. Tomorrow’s game is at 7:05 p.m. CST.
