The New Mexico Ice Wolves® today announced that five new players were picked up in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) 2021 Entry Draft. The NM Ice Wolves now have the maximum number of 36 total players protected comprising five picks from today’s Entry Draft and three prior picks from the NAHL’s Supplemental Draft which was held last month, 10 tendered players and several returning players from the 2020-2021 season.

Below is a list of the NM Ice Wolves 2021 NAHL Entry Draft selections listed by round:

1st round- John Dalton – Defenseman from River Forest, Illinois
2nd round- Anthony Leahy – Forward from Roseville, Minnesota
3rd round – Benjamin Behrens – Goaltender from St. Louis, Missouri
4th round- Reed Kluender – Defenseman from St. Paul, Minnesota

“We are thrilled with the players we were able to select in today’s 2021 NAHL Entry Draft and what’s really exciting is that three of these players in Hicks, Leahy and Kluender were at our pre-draft camp last weekend and impressed us so much we added them to our protected list with today’s picks,” said NM Ice Wolves head coach Phil Fox. “We set out to add depth to our roster and with today’s picks we accomplished that. We are now focusing on the upcoming main camp which returns to our home ice in Albuquerque and the entire organization is thrilled to get the new season started.”

With today’s Entry Draft the NM Ice Wolves added key talent in an already productive off season for the team with three tendered players since the conclusion of the 2020-2021 season. The team’s draft picks, tenders and other protected players will be joined by invited free agents at the NM Ice Wolves’ main camp on July 28-31, 2021 at Outpost Ice Arenas in Albuquerque, where the final roster will be firmly shaped up.
